Abscess:: A localized accumulation of pus; usually formed by an infection; often associated with dental infections, however abscesses can occur at the site of an injection or as the condition of certain diseases.
Acid:: A substance having a pH of less than 7; wine, lemon juice, vinegar and more are examples of acids.
Acne:: A condition, which includes the inflammation of the sebaceous glands, characterized by comedones and pimples. Acne most commonly occurs on the face but can also appear on the back, chest and more uncommonly, other parts of the body. Severe cases of acne can produce nodules and cysts and result in scarring.
Acrylic:: A glassy thermoplastic; generally characterized by the property of repelling water or moisture.
Aging:: The process of growing old. In some instances the process of deterioration leading to eventual death or breakdown.
Alkaline:: Basic, or having a pH of greater than 7; Lye and baking soda are both examples of alkaline substance.
Allantoin:: A white crystalline oxidation product, primary extracted from plants for use medicinally in treatment of ulcers, or in lotions, balms and lipstick etc. for its healing and soothing effect.
Allergen:: Something that produces an overreaction of the body's immune system to create an allergic reaction.
Almond Oil:: A vegetable oil made from almonds. It is a common cosmetic product for softening skin.
Aloe Vera:: Any species of Aloe Vera, from the cactus family, the fleshy leaves provide a thick juice used as an emollient ingredient of skin lotions and treating burns primarily for its softening properties. In addition to the healing and softening characteristics of Aloe Vera in topical application, many people ingest Aloe Vera as a dietary supplement.
Amatokin:: A youth restore skincare product, which comes in cream form; from the new family of stem cell cosmetics. Claims rival the other popular youth restore competitor; Botox.
Antioxidant:: A substance that prevents damage to the cells caused by free radicals; tocopherals (vitamin E) and vitamin C are excellent examples of antioxidants.
Astringent:: A substance that contracts the tissues or canals of the body, thereby diminishing inflows or outflows.
